Bostan University's Standardized Test Requirements

Boston University has decided to remain test optional for students applying for admission through fall 2028 and spring 2029. I trust this will be good news for your current juniors and sophomores.

Here are a few more important facts for you to know about our test optional admissions policy:

  • This policy applies to all undergraduate schools and colleges at Boston University and all scholarship programs.
  • Applicants will have the option to indicate whether they would like us to consider their standardized test scores when they apply.
  • International students will still be required to submit the TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo test as the primary means for evaluating English-language proficiency.

While the admissions process at Boston University has always been holistic and decisions have never been based solely on one single factor, such as an SAT or ACT score, the move to test optional over the past two years has improved our process by adding considerable weight to the important qualities and characteristics that focus more on the academic and personal accomplishments of an applicant. Ultimately, our goal is to bring together students who are united by a common interest in learning, and whose varied life circumstances, interests, and talents contribute to the dynamic educational environment of the University.

Admission at Suffolk University

Suffolk University’s Office of Undergraduate Admission would like to thank you for all that you do for your students throughout the application process. To further support your applicants, we’d like to share some important reminders and updates:

As long as your students submit their Common Application or Suffolk Online application by that deadline their supporting documents may follow after. Please let us know if you have students in need of an application fee waiver so we can assist. Students who complete their application will receive a decision before the holidays.

  • Our deadline for Regular Decision is February 15 and we will release decisions on a rolling basis (twice per month) starting in January. University of Pennsylvania helps making financial aid easy!

With a busy school year in full swing, we want to make one thing on your plate just a little bit easier—like explaining the financial aid process at Penn! We know financial aid can be confusing and daunting for students, so we’ve taken steps to simplify our financial aid application process.

To ensure our requirements are clear and easy to follow, we’ve summarized the changes below so you have everything you need to support your students. To stay up to date on our financial aid policies and requirements, please visit Penn’s Prospective Undergraduate Student Checklist.

What’s Changing:

  1. Admitted students who are packaged as highly aided students in their first year only need to submit a FAFSA each subsequent year as their renewal application. International highly aided students do not need to submit anything after their first year.
  2. Applicants are no longer required to submit the Penn Outside Resource Form. The FAFSA and the CSS Profile are now the only required applications.
  3. Applicants with a non-custodial parent are only required to supply that parent’s financial information once. After the first application, students will not have to resubmit non-custodial parent information each year.
  4. Applicants only need to submit the primary parent W2 (which should match the primary parent listed on the FAFSA application). Second parent W2s are no longer required.
  5. Canadian applicants no longer need to submit a T4 tax form.

Important information about UAT-UK admissions tests

The first sitting of the Engineering and Science Admissions Test (ESAT) and the Test of Mathematics for University Admission (TMUA) runs from 15 to 17 October 2024.

Here are answers to some common questions about these computer-based tests which are being used by the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London for selection to certain STEM and Economics undergraduate courses for 2025 entry.

The information applies for both test sittings. We hope these will prove useful to you in supporting students who are taking the test.

Students who have not yet registered for a test will be able to book online for the January 2025 sitting from 24 October to 9 December 2024. This does not apply to students applying for Cambridge who must sit the test in October 2024 for 2025 entry.

❯ Should candidates provide their UCAS Personal ID (PID) to UAT-UK?

  • No, UAT-UK does not require candidates to provide their PID when registering for a UAT-UK account or booking their test.
  • UAT-UK and Pearson VUE will work closely with UCAS to match scores for the ESAT and TMUA to the relevant UCAS application using other data points provided at the point of test booking. This method is more accurate. Candidates can be assured that their test scores will be automatically passed to the relevant institutions without further action needed.

❯ Do candidates need to submit their UCAS application before they sit their test?

  • No, UAT-UK matches data with UCAS multiple times throughout the year. If a score cannot be matched to a UCAS application, it will be picked up in the next match after the UCAS application is submitted.
  • Applicants to Cambridge must ensure they submit their application by 15 October UCAS deadline and sit the test in October 2024. Test booking for October has now closed.

❯ Are candidates provided with paper for rough work during the test?

  • Candidates are given an erasable A4-size whiteboard in the test centre.

❯ Where can candidates access their results?

  • Candidates will be able to view their results approximately six weeks after the test. They will be notified by email when their results are ready, and they will be able to access them via their UAT-UK account.

❯ How can we interpret the results?

  • Scores are reported on a 1.0-9.0 scale. Raw scores will not be provided. Candidates will have access to an explanation of results document, produced by UAT-UK, which contextualises their score. This will be available on the UAT-UK website once the results are released.
  • Each university will decide how to use the test scores to assess an applicant, in combination with other factors such as their predicted or achieved school qualifications and UCAS personal statement.
  • Each university may publish information on score requirements, so please refer to the relevant institutional webpages for this information. UAT-UK does not set standard score requirements.

❯ Can a student, who’s missed the deadline to register, still take the test?

  • UAT-UK offers two sittings of the ESAT and the TMUA each year. Test bookings for October are now closed.
  • Applicants to Imperial College London, LSE, Durham or Warwick can still sit the test in January 2025. There is no advantage to these candidates in sitting in the test in October or January. Test bookings for January open online on 24 October 2024.
  • Candidates who need access arrangements for the January sitting should request them as early as possible via the UAT-UK website. The deadline for candidates requesting access arrangements is 21 November. Candidates will need to supply documentary evidence as part of their application and may require your support with this.

❯ What help is available for candidates in financial need?

  • UK candidates in financial need can apply for a UAT-UK bursary to cover the full test fee (£75). Eligibility criteria apply and students must apply for the bursary before booking the test. Please encourage students in this position to make an application as early as possible via the UAT-UK website.

❯ How can I support my students to prepare for the test?

  • Both the ESAT and the TMUA will cover topics that your students will likely have encountered during their school studies. The test specification documents provide an overview of the test structure and a detailed list of topics that questions can cover. You can access these specifications and other preparatory materials on the UAT-UK website.
  • We encourage you to ensure that candidates attempt the practice tests before their scheduled test booking.

Test-Optional Policy
Williams has a truly test-optional admission policy. Every student is considered through a fully student-centered, holistic evaluation process.

Northeastern University - Advanced Credit for Indian Standard XII Exams

Northeastern University is committed to enhancing academic opportunities for international students. To support this, we are excited to offer advanced standing test credit to students who achieve a score of 81% (CBSE) or 80% (CISE) or higher on specific Indian Standard XII examinations. This policy pertains to the All-India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) managed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations administered by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE).

Under this policy, qualifying students will receive university credit for their Standard XII Board exam results. This will enable them to place out of some initial 100-level courses and embark on advanced coursework earlier in their academic careers. This initiative reflects our commitment to recognizing the rigor of the Indian Standard XII exams and valuing the achievements of our Indian student population, who are among the largest international groups on our campuses.

We encourage your students to consider this opportunity and apply to Northeastern University for the Fall 2025 term. For more detailed information, please refer to our transfer credit policies

Columbia College Chicago: Challenge, Change, and Transformation
Columbia College Chicago recently announced plans to make changes to our program offerings. These changes are in response to challenges that have impacted our enrollment and increased our operational costs—challenges that are familiar across many other private colleges and universities nationwide.

We know that school counselors and college search advocates like you work hard to help your students find the institution that’s right for them. That’s why I wanted to take a moment to share some information about these changes, and to provide you with deeper insight and context regarding our decisions and our plans moving forward.

The recent changes at Columbia have consisted of the following:
  • A college-wide reduction in workforce that primarily affected non-student-facing staff
  • The administrative restructuring of programs and academic departments into eight new Schools
  • A reduction (from 65 to 58) in the number of majors we currently offer
  • The beginning of a process to assess an additional 18 majors, which will either be sunset or will merge with related programs by 2028
If you’re interested in reading more about our plans, I encourage you to follow our Academic Program Array page, which will be updated throughout the process. You can also join me and Assistant Director of Admissions, Danny Tortelli, for a virtual Q&A specifically for counselors and advocates on Thursday, November 14, at 10:00 a.m. Central. Or, if you’re going to be in Los Angeles this week, catch me at Columbia College Chicago’s NACAC College Fair booth on Friday, September 27, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Pacific.

There are difficult decisions behind and ahead of us, and we are not making any of them lightly, but Columbia’s leadership remains focused on making sure each of these decisions best insures the future sustainability of our institution.

In 2025, Columbia celebrates our 135th year as a fixture of Chicago’s cultural landscape. Our hope, and our goal, is that all of our hard work leads to another 135 years of preparing students to thrive as creative professionals

Boston University Updates

Strengthening our commitment toward making Boston University accessible to your highest achieving students, we have recently changed our Presidential Scholarship from an established $25,000 award to a half-tuition scholarship. This means that the award amount for the Presidential Scholarship will reflect any changes in the overall tuition and will be adjusted annually to cover half of the cost of tuition. Our primary goal continues to be that cost should not be a barrier for your students to attend the University.

The 3,300 students in the BU Class of 2028 arrived on campus just two short weeks ago and they are quickly acclimating to life in Boston. They are an impressive and talented group of students who, on average, ranked in the top 4% of their high school classes. They hail from every corner of the globe, including 86 countries and 49 U.S. states (minus Wyoming) plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our international students account for 24% of the incoming class and another 42% are students of color. While this percentage represents only a slight decrease in the number of students of color compared with last year, this outcome was not unexpected given the decision by the Supreme Court of the United States to ban the consideration of race in admissions. And finally, it is important to note that we were successful in maintaining the percentage of first-generation (20%) and low-income students (22%) in the BU Class of 2028. I am very proud of our new class and hope that this will be the beginning of an amazing journey for all your students enrolled at BU.

Florida Colleges & Universities: The Insider View

Florida’s higher education system is often recognized as one of the best in the nation. The State University System (SUS) of Florida includes 12 member institutions: UF, FSU, UCF, FIU, FAU, FGCU, USF, UNF, Florida Poly, New College of Florida, FAMU, and UWF. The college advisors at International College Counselors recently attended an exclusive admissions workshop for the Florida SUS, where they heard from representatives of all 12 Florida public institutions.

This year, FIU earned preeminent designation by Florida Board of Governors, a designation earned when a university meets a series of performance-based funding metrics related to student success, research, and top national recognition. FIU welcomed 5,300 new first-year students this past fall from 165 countries.

Year after year, FIU has the #1 pass rate of the Florida Bar exam. The FIU Honors College Law School Prep Program is specifically tailored to prepare pre-law students for success in the law school admission process and transition to the first year of law school. At FIU, 56% of undergraduates engage in research. FIU also offers a competitive 7-year BS/MD Pathway. To be eligible, some requirements include: admittance to FIU and FIU Honors College, a minimum 1350 SAT or 31 ACT, a 3.7+ unweighted GPA, and selection of Biology as the major on the FIU Common App. Sixty-four percent of undergraduate students identify as Hispanic/Latinx, and 11% identify as Black/African-American. FIU’s Early Action deadline for Florida students is November 1, while their All First-Year Application deadline is December 3.

Notre Dame Announces No Loan Program

As announced by University President Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C. in his inaugural address on September 13, Notre Dame has launched Pathways to Notre Dame, a historic expansion to its affordability and accessibility initiatives for undergraduate students.

To further remove financial barriers, effective for all undergraduate students enrolling in fall 2025, the University will no longer include loans in financial aid offers. This new initiative will help ensure that middle- and low-income students can join the Notre Dame family. Students and families may still elect to take out federal or private loans to finance their contributions. Work-study will remain a component of Notre Dame’s financial aid packages for many students with demonstrated financial need.

The University will also no longer include loans in continuing students’ financial aid offers starting in fall 2025. If a student borrowed previously, they will be responsible for the repayment of those loans following graduation.

A second component of Pathways to Notre Dame is a universal need-blind admissions policy for all undergraduate applicants, meaning the University will not consider the financial situation of students or their families. Notre Dame will become the first faith-based university, and one of only nine highly selective institutions overall, to be need-blind for all students, both domestic and international.

Duke University - Admission News

With the semester underway here at Duke, we are preparing for another admission cycle and have a few updates to share. We look forward to working in tandem with each of you to help guide students to the best college fit.

Duke will remain test-optional for both first-year and transfer applicants for the 2024-2025 admissions cycle. You can read more specifics about our policy here, under Tests.

Duke has joined with other partner institutions in the Student Context Pilot. See below for more information.

➤ What is the Student Context Pilot?

Duke is participating with the Common Application’s Student Context Pilot, an optional application question that elicits contextual information about applicants and informs our understanding of their home context. Answering this additional, optional question will allow applicants to share information about family responsibilities that they might not otherwise include among their extracurricular activities but that requires a significant commitment.

➤ How will the Duke Office of Undergraduate Admissions use the information gathered in this question?

Duke University has always taken a holistic approach in making our admissions decisions, meaning that we are considering all aspects of an application file. This question provides more depth to the personal side of the application by giving us more specific information about an applicant’s life at home. Applicants may be hesitant to share this information or may feel it does not fit within the constraints of another essay. We hope by providing this avenue, students feel they can present a clearer and fuller picture of themselves and their backgrounds which in turn helps us further understand the context of their application.

University of Connecticut - Early Decision
  1. Early Decision (ED) will be available for students applying for fall 2025 admission.
  2. Early Decision is a binding commitment, meaning that if admitted to their first-choice campus and first-choice major, students agree to enroll at UConn and withdraw any applications submitted to other colleges and universities.
  3. Early Decision applicants must submit their application, a completed Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR), and all supporting materials by November 1, and can expect to receive an admission decision in mid-December.
  4. Please note that Early Decision notifications will include offers of merit scholarships but will not include need-based aid.
  5. Students relying on a financial aid package to support their education are encouraged to apply by December 1 or January 15.
  6. For more information about Early Decision, including special circumstances and frequently-asked questions. Visit website

Durham University Spotlight: Combined Honours in Social Sciences

we’re looking closer at our BA Combined Honours in Social Sciences at Durham.

Read on to find out whether this undergraduate course might be the right choice for some of your students.

Combined Honours in Social Sciences (CHSS)

At Durham, we offer three excellent multi-subject degree programmes:

• Combined Honours in Social Sciences
• Liberal Arts
• Natural Sciences.

These programmes allow students to develop graduate skills that might be more fully emphasised than in traditional single-subject programmes.

Our CHSS undergraduate course allows students to create a bespoke degree which goes beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. Students can combine modules from two, three, or four subject areas to build a programme of study that suits their interests and future aspirations.

As part of this course, students must take at least half of their credits each year from Social Science subjects. Students can take up to half of their credits each year from a subject in our Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

➤ Social Sciences and Health subjects (minimum 50% each year)

  1. Anthropology
  2. Archaeology
  3. Economics
  4. Education
  5. Geography
  6. Management and Marketing
  7. Politics and International Relations
  8. Sociology and Criminology
  9. Sport and Exercise Sciences.

➤ Arts and Humanities subjects (maximum 50% each year)

  1. Classics and Ancient History
  2. English
  3. History
  4. Modern Languages
  5. Music
  6. Philosophy
  7. Theology and Religion
  8. Visual Arts.

For example, a student who enjoyed Sociology at school but wants to combine this with other related disciplines at university might want to build a degree in Sociology, Anthropology, and Education. A student interested in exploring Asia through different subjects might choose a combination of History, International Relations, and Marketing but could apply for a year abroad through one of those departments.

By studying a multi-subject degree like CHSS, students experience in-depth learning from a wide range of subject specialists. This can lead to a broader knowledge base and enhanced graduate skills. When we talk to the employers of our students who choose to take a placement year as part of CHSS, they’re very impressed at the abilities of our students and how they tackle a wide range of tasks.

Explore our CHSS webpages to learn more, hear from our students, and discover whether CHSS at Durham is a good match for your students.

Career insights: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

I wanted to tell you about a high-paying, in-demand health career opportunity for your students—Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

RDNs are food and nutrition experts who help people live longer, healthier, and more active lives. RDN career options are diverse and flexible: in health care settings (hospitals, clinics); business and industry (food product development, food marketing, food service management); communications (public relations, social media); and community health programs. To become an RDN, students need to complete a bachelor’s and master’s degree, a dietetic internship, and pass the national RDN exam.

There is a nationwide shortage of RDNs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the number of jobs for RDNs will rise 7% in the next 10 years—a rate faster than average for all occupations.

Our top-rated Department of Nutritional Sciences at Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences has an accredited undergraduate program and combined graduate program/dietetic internship. These programs, in which students learn in state-of-the-art food and nutrition laboratories and clinical simulation labs, lead students seamlessly to the RDN.

To learn more about how Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences can help your students earn the RDN credential, please visit our department website or reach out to me at vquick@njaes.rutgers.edu. I am also happy to schedule a visit for you to our laboratories.

Northeastern Enrollment Updates for Fall 2025

Greetings from Northeastern University! It is hard to believe that the new academic year is upon us. We are looking forward to another year working alongside you as our trusted colleagues and would like to take a moment to reflect on the past year and share some updates for the upcoming year.

Like you, we navigated the major challenges of this past year—the Supreme Courts’ ruling on race-conscious action in college admissions and the unprecedented complications of FAFSA. Despite those challenges, we are pleased to report that we have yielded one of the strongest incoming academic classes enrolled in various first-year programs. We also had another record year, with applications totaling over 98,000 this past cycle. Many of you are familiar with and have sent numerous students to participate in Northeastern’s enrollment opportunities, which continue to be an integral part of the first-year experience for our students. Notably, more than half of the incoming Fall 2024 class will begin their journey through a first-year program outside of the Boston campus.

We will continue to offer a variety of enrollment paths, providing students the opportunity to begin at Northeastern’s BostonOakland, and London campuses, and at partnership institutions through The N.U.in Program. We are also excited to announce that new for Fall 2025, students will also have the chance to start their journey in Manhattan through the New York City Scholars program. During their first year at Northeastern, NYC Scholars will study at the Marymount Manhattan College campus, immersed in the heart of New York City with access to all the city has to offer academically and culturally. In their second year and beyond, NYC Scholars will study at Northeastern’s Boston campus with opportunities to continue to explore global program offerings.

Applicants to Northeastern may indicate their preference for the various first-year programs as part of the Northeastern-specific questions in the application—this preference helps guide the Admissions Committee in making their decisions. Please note that students cannot apply directly to a specific enrollment opportunity, as all applicants are considered for every available avenue of admission. Students admitted through Early Decision will be bound to their enrollment opportunity if it is their first preference. This will also be true for preferences of any of our five enrollment options and if students select “open to any opportunity”. Additional information regarding each program can be found on our Enrollment Opportunities page

For your students who have identified Northeastern as their unequivocal first choice, we would encourage them to consider applying ED I or ED II. For Fall 2024, we accepted a higher percentage of students through Early Decision than any other rounds. Recognizing that students make a commitment to Northeastern through Early Decision, Northeastern is making a commitment back to them through opportunities for early access to academic credit, early need-based financial aid estimates, and early visit opportunities. Please visit our website for more information regarding our Early Decision program. Your students and their families will receive additional information throughout the fall.

Northeastern University has always evaluated each applicant holistically. The admissions team focuses on the rigor of coursework and academic performance in the classroom, in addition to considering leadership, extracurricular involvement, personal qualities, interest in experiential learning, and fit for Northeastern and our various first-year enrollment opportunities. Northeastern will remain test-optional for the foreseeable future, and for those who choose to submit them, standardized test scores will also be considered. Northeastern remains committed to ensuring access for students from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds, unwavering in its pledge to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

At UChicago, submitting an SAT or ACT is optional and not required for admission. Any SAT or ACT score submitted will only be used in review if it will positively affect an applicant’s chance of admission. Test scores that may negatively impact an admission decision will not be considered in review. All applicants, including domestic students, international students, and transfer students will be reviewed under this policy.

IMPORTANT: Updates to Loyola's Application Process

Key changes to the application process at Loyola University New Orleans:

  1. Letters of recommendation are no longer required
  2. Personal essays are no longer required
  3. We have shifted from test-blind to test-optional admission

Three great reasons why we’ve made these adjustments

  1. Reducing barriers to completing applications: By eliminating the requirement for letters of recommendation and essays, we’re making it easier for students to apply and receive a decision. **We are also hoping this cuts down on your workload!
  2. This simplified process allows us to focus more on a student’s overall academic performance, extracurricular activities, and personal achievements. And, allows us to provide decisions faster.
  3. Increased flexibility: Our shift to test-optional admissions gives students the choice to submit standardized test scores if they feel these accurately represent their abilities. This change acknowledges standardized tests may not always reflect a student’s true potential and allows for a more inclusive admissions process.

These changes will make Loyola University New Orleans more accessible while maintaining our commitment to admitting high-quality students who will thrive in our academic environment.

In order to ensure our application process is seamlessly ready for your students, Loyola’s application will be available starting September 1, 2024.

If you have any questions about these changes or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our admissions team. We appreciate your continued support in guiding students through the college application process.

Don't Forget About the UArts–Drexel Pathway

Drexel University’s UArts-Drexel Pathway program is here to help your students navigate the University of the Arts closing. As a respected global leader in experiential education that supports a dynamic and vibrant creative community, we are committed to ensuring that your students have the support and opportunities needed during this time.

Individual Teach-Out plans will be developed for each student. However, students may also elect to transfer to non-teach-out programs and have their credit evaluated for application to any Drexel program.

We are ready to guide your students through their next steps with individualized counseling, an expedited admissions process, and financial aid opportunities. If they haven’t already, have them complete our Request Information form today to start the conversation. If they have any questions, please ask them to contact us at enroll@drexel.edu or schedule an individual counseling session.

Beginning the New Year at Drexel Through the Winter Entry Program

Drexel recognizes the need for more flexibility in offering first-year students opportunities to start their college careers. This includes providing alternatives to beginning in the fall, and is why the University offers the Winter Entry Program — an admissions plan that offers first-year students the chance to join us during Drexel’s winter quarter (January 2025). This option provides more time for families to plan and promotes access to those who find their choices currently limited.

Applications for our Winter Entry Program will open on August 1, 2024. It’s important to note that this option is separate from transferring to Drexel and is only open to students who have not previously matriculated into a college or university program prior to January 2025.

For more information about the program, please visit our Winter Entry Application Instructions.

What To Know: University of Michigan Application

Aug. 1, when our application is scheduled to go live, is approaching soon! Below, you’ll find some information on key topics — like U-M’s new first-year admitting units, essay questions, test-optional policy, key dates/deadlines, and how to apply starting on Aug. 1 — that may be helpful to know for you and students you work with.

New First-year Admitting Units for Fall Term

There are three new options for prospective students applying for entry in fall 2025. These new options will allow prospective students to:

  • Apply directly to the Ross School of Business. Previously, first-year applicants had to apply to another first-year admitting school or college and apply separately for Preferred Admission to Ross. They will still have the opportunity to apply for Preferred Admission to Ross if they choose (select schools only, see our Preferred Admission webpage).
  • Apply directly to the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the College of Pharmacy. Previously, this program was only available for current U-M students or college-level transfer students.
  • Apply to the Bachelor of Science in Urban Technology program at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning for a fall 2025 start. This program is moving from a winter start to a fall start.

Essay Questions

Prospective students can begin thinking about and drafting responses to the essay questions, including the Common Application Personal Essay, as well as the University of Michigan Questions.

Test-optional Policy

For the 2025 application cycle, U-M will utilize a test-optional policy. Prospective students will continue to have the choice to submit standardized test scores (ACT/SAT), if they desire, as part of their application. Read more in the “Testing” section on our website.

Key Dates and Deadlines

Take note of important dates in the application cycle, including the Early Action deadline (Nov. 1), the Regular Decision deadline (Feb. 1, 2025), and the financial aid application deadline (March 31, 2025).

How To Apply (Starting Aug. 1)

Learn more about the actual steps prospective students will take to apply after the application goes live on Aug. 1.

2025 Undergraduate Deadlines – Application Information

Happy Summer from Worcester Polytechnic Institute!

This year’s applicant pool included nearly 13,000 students from 49 states (plus DC and Puerto Rico!) and 124 countries.  It’s always impressive to see our talented applicants’ academic strengths and learn how they are seen through their counselor’s eyes.

This year’s applicants came with impressive resumes including fishmongers, speed-cubers, entrepreneurs, authors & bloggers, barbershop quartet members, calligraphers, trapeze artists, chess champions, podcast hosts, ballroom dancers, blacksmiths, jugglers, YouTube influencers, national team athletes, and more.

They caught our eyes with their unique accomplishments including playing the bagpipes, winning congressional awards for their art, goat farming, having 1000+ monthly listeners on Spotify, pi memorization (up to 200 digits), hiking the Appalachian Trail, and most unforgettably, being a cast member in a local PBS children’s show!

In true innovator style, the used their love of STEM to help their communities; one applicant received a patent for a device created to help prevent pedestrian deaths. Another student spends her time recording her reading the Sunday paper & distributing it to the blind and visually impaired, We were impressed with the number of students who have built their own computers and restored old vehicles for themselves and others. AS a project-based university, we LOVE seeing these accomplishments from our applicants.

We also wanted to take the opportunity to remind you that WPI is test-free/test-blind and we do not use SAT or ACT scores in our admissions review process. We also don’t admit by major — students apply to WPI and are admitted to WPI into whichever major they choose, and have the ability to easily change their major. This is one of the advantages of being a smaller, more flextible institution – we give students time to try different disciplines and figure out which path is right for them.

While the coming school year still feels far away, we want to remind you that our Early Action/Early Decision deadline is coming up on November 1st! We strongly encourage interested applicants to apply early as this is when we tend to see our most competitive and engaged students submitting their applications. Additionally, our counseling staff have begun the process of reaching out to schedule school visits for the fall travel season. If you’re interested in having a representative from WPI speak with your students, be sure to let us know and we will have your area’s representative reach out!

FAFSA Updates & Delay Navigation

The FAFSA Simplification Act was enacted by congress last year, and unfortunately caused a host of delays and difficulties on the university side when it came to processing financial aid awards this year. With that said, WPI’s Office of Financial Aid did a spectacular job navigating these delays and communicating with prospective students and their families throughout the entire process.

In lieu of official awards, our aid department was able to give anticipated financial awards based on what data we had available through the student’s CSS Profile. When FAFSA data arrived for each student, their award was then modified to take the new data into account. While most students awards were not affected, any student who had significant changes and had already deposited was allowed to have their deposit refunded.

Through constant changes and updates, WPI was able to process all aid packages prior to May 1st, and gave all students until May 15th to deposit with some additional extensions being granted on a case-by-case basis. In all, we believe we navigated the process as well as we could have given the circumstances, and kept our process as transparent and equitable as possible for each and every student. If you have any questions for the Office of Financial Aid, please don’t hesitate to contact them at finaid@wpi.edu

Durham University - Clearing Update

We anticipate having clearing vacancies this year, which are advertised on our Clearing webpages, where your students can sign up for clearing updates. There are details about how to contact us if anyone already has their qualifications and is interested in talking to us about any vacancies we have.

If any of your students are receiving IB results, we’ll make confirmation decisions on Conditional Firm and Conditional Insurance applicants as soon as we can. If they miss the conditions of their offer, we may not be able to make a decision immediately and they may have to wait until after the A-level results are published. This will be particularly true for our very oversubscribed courses.

Where UCAS does not send us IB results, we’ll contact applicants directly and ask them to upload their results through their applicant portal.

If any of your students are using their school email address for their UCAS application, it’s a good idea for them to change this to a personal email address at UCAS before access to their school email address is removed. We’ll send them actions they’ll need to take throughout the summer and don’t want them to miss important information on our final acceptance form, college allocation, or enrolment if they’re confirmed with us after the publication of results.

We’ll soon enter the UCAS results embargo, which will start on Monday 29 July 2024 at 6pm (BST/GMT+1) and end on Thursday 15 August at 8am (BST/GMT+1). For more information, see UCAS guidance on the embargo.

University of Exeter Confirmation and Clearing News- July 2024

Results Day

Our Admissions team will be working hard to process results as quickly as possible and we recommend all your Exeter offer holders check their UCAS Hub to see any updates on their application.

If students have firmly accepted their conditional offer but have not satisfied the exact conditions, we will review their offer, taking into consideration their actual performance and the performance of others seeking entry onto the same course. Please send the final results to Undergraduate Admissions Mail for further review and confirmation.

Our regional teams are always happy to speak with any students interested in studying at Exeter or help with queries that you may have from current applicants.

Clearing Vacancies open 3rd July

We are very happy to help any students who have now decided to look at the UK for their studies this September and will be either applying after the UCAS deadline, haven’t met the conditions of their offers or have declined their firm place.

Our list of course vacancies will be live on our website on 3rd July 2024. This list will be updated again on A-Level results day on 15th August 2024

From Wednesday 3rd July, students who already have their final results, including their English Language, will be able to check our Clearing vacancies and required grades. Students can submit an application for one of our Clearing vacancies using the ‘Start applications’ button when selecting the programme.

  • We will consider a student’s eligibility for the programme
  • If eligible, we will send an offer via email (including instructions on how to accept through UCAS Clearing).
  • Students will then have 72 hours to accept a Clearing offer and refer themselves through UCAS. Important Class of 2029 Updates from Skidmore College

Greetings from Saratoga Springs and Skidmore College. We recognize that for many it has been an extraordinarily challenging year. We’d like to take a moment and thank you for your dedication. As we reflect on our own work, we know it wouldn’t be possible without you – thank you.

Now more than ever, the need for clear and bilateral dialogue is not only evident – but necessary. To that end, we’d like to update you on our application changes for the Class of 2029 in the hopes that this early information aids in your work with students this coming academic year. Additionally, we’d like to share that many of the changes we are making this year are with the lens and intent of reducing barriers and unnecessary stress in the application process for students. At Skidmore, our holistic approach to student health and wellness is one we take seriously and we endeavor to model within Admissions.

Updated Deadlines & New Application Options

Updated deadlines will allow our team more time to make informed admission decisions that are thoughtful and in alignment with Skidmore’s values.

  • Application deadlines: EDI: Nov 1 | EDII & RD: Jan 8
  • Financial Aid deadlines: EDI: Nov 8 | EDII & RD: Jan 15
  • Supporting materials: generally expected a week after the application deadline, though please know we are always willing to be flexible and to work with students if they are unable to meet deadlines.
  • QuestBridge Partnership: We are proud of our new partnership with QuestBridge, an institution whose work bespeaks Skidmore’s long-held values of inclusion, diversity, and access. To ease the student experience, Skidmore requires no special QuestBridge supplements or forms, and applications will automatically be loaded as test optional.

Bolstered Programming & Discontinuation of Interviews

As you may know, we’ve discontinued interviews for the Class of 2029 and beyond. What does this mean moving forward?

  • Low stakes/stress engagement opportunities: The most valuable aspect of the interview was helping students understand and connect with Skidmore. In that spirit, we endeavor to meet students where they are by offering virtual student chats that highlight personal insights without the stressful evaluative aspect of an interview.
  • Bolstered virtual programming: We’ve increased the opportunities for lower-stakes interactions and engagement and have dovetailed our programming with Virtual Information Sessions most Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. followed by themed Ask Me Anything Student Chatsmost Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. In addition to these efforts, we are hosting and recording a Skidmore Success Series (select dates throughout the summer and fall) featuring simple and useful content for students searching for and applying to colleges.
  • Creative Thought Works: This September we will launch a monthly series, Creative Thought Works, showcasing our multifaceted alumni, faculty, and current students who demonstrate the impact of Creative Thought at Skidmore. After their enriching Skidmore experiences, our alumni go on to run Fortune 500 companies, create and perform art, launch startups, solve the world’s most complex problems, serve their communities, and much more. This series will highlight these inspiring individuals and their stories, emphasizing the endless opportunities possible with a Skidmore education.

Application Requirements

Many of our application requirements remain the same. Students and their families can rest assured that Skidmore remains steadfast in our work to reduce barriers in the application process. Students can find all application checklist items and deadlines in one transparent grid on our website.

  • Test Optional: Skidmore remains consistent in our commitment to our test-optional policy. Campus research supports our ability to admit and enroll students who thrive without test scores. We will continue to transparently report our mid-50% of those who submit scores (about 60% of applicants and enrolling students applied without test scores).
  • No Extra Essays: Additional writing can be burdensome and therefore we require no extra essays.
  • School Counselor Letter of Recommendation: This application material remains optional, not required.
  • Art, Music & Dance Portfolio Submission: This year, Portfolios will be submitted via the Skidmore Applicant Portal enabling a free and seamless experience for students that better allows us to facilitate faculty review.
  • Deposit Waivers: Skidmore fully waives the enrollment deposit for students with significant financial need.
  • Financial Aid: Applicants do not need to submit a FAFSA to be considered for a Skidmore grant and we only require the CSS Profile at the time of application. Since the FAFSA is required only to apply for Federal aid (and can be completed after students have been accepted), each admitted student receives their financial aid offer the same day as their letter of admission.

Context & Outcomes

We recognize this is a time of much uncertainty for those who support students in their college search and application process. We have continued to reemphasize that we remain steadfast in our ongoing commitment to fostering diversity within our community. We’re pleased that in a year of such uncertainty, we were able to enroll an incredibly talented, strong, and diverse class of students. We will continue the dialogue and share more information about outcomes with you this Fall when we send out our Profile.

Most universities have some courses in Clearing and the full list will be available on UCAS. We have lots of information on the process on our Clearing webpages.

Essex welcomes applications from 3 July 2024 and once students are holding their qualifications, they can apply using our online application form.

What are the benefits of combined bachelor’s and master’s degrees for your students:
The best of both worlds – students can enjoy the advantages of a comprehensive and specialized degree.
Students can complete two undergraduate degrees in a shorter time than doing them separately.

Durham University - Natural Sciences

At Durham, we actively provide our students with opportunities to develop attributes we hope they have by the time they graduate. One way in which we do this is through our excellent multi-subject degree programmes:

These programs allow students to develop graduate skills that might not be as fully emphasized in traditional single-subject programs.

The Natural Sciences degree offers more than the traditional biological and physical sciences. With 14 different single-degree programmes to choose from, students tailor their education to their interests and career goals. Students weave together subjects that develop knowledge and skills that contribute to a major field of study. Students specialise in the following subjects while also incorporating other disciplines like Business, Economics, or Philosophy:

Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Psychology

For example, a student interested in Computational Biology could combine Computer Science and Biosciences, or a student more interested in Business Analytics could blend Computer Science with Business.

Students are not limited to two-degree programs. They could combine three separate degree subjects, like Biosciences, Social Geography, and Evolutionary Anthropology to focus on Sustainability.

By studying a multi-subject degree like Natural Sciences, students experience in-depth learning from subject specialists. This can lead to a broader knowledge base and enhanced graduate skills. The employers of our placement degree students are often impressed by their year-out achievements compared with other placement students!

Explore our Natural Sciences webpages to discover whether Natural Sciences at Durham could be a good match for your students.

The Curry Commitment

This spring, President Jay Gonzalez announced an exciting career readiness initiative to benefit our students and increase the value of a Curry education. The Curry Commitment is a job guarantee program for full-time undergraduate students.

The Curry Commitment states that as long as students meet certain minimum requirements, Curry guarantees they will have a job that requires a college degree within 6 months of their graduation, unless they are electing to pursue graduate studies. Rising Curry sophomores (Class of 2027) and every ensuing incoming class will be eligible for The Curry Commitment.

And we will hold ourselves accountable to deliver on this promise.

If a graduate is not able to secure a job within 6 months of graduation, Curry will commit to paying their federal student loans for up to 12 months, place them in a paid internship for up to 12 months, or provide 6 free credits of a Curry graduate program to the student – whichever they prefer.

Curry is leading the way with this initiative as the only college in Massachusetts, and one of just a handful across the country, to make this pledge to students. It’s responsive to the number one priority of students and families today – that their investment in higher education is going to be worth it and result in a job.

We’re thrilled to launch this initiative and ask that you share this exciting update with your students as they consider their college options going forward. We hope The Curry Commitment will increase student’s confidence in Curry being the right place to prepare them for a successful career.

Important Admissions Update from Boston University

This year’s admissions cycle has been another one for the record books beginning with an applicant pool of 78,760. Below are some highlights from the past year.

The BU Class of 2028 includes a talented and diverse group of students from a wide variety of backgrounds and with myriad life experiences. The competition for admission to BU remained keen this year, and despite some very limited waitlist activity, the admit rate was nearly identical to last year, at 11%. BU’s first-year class is projected to be 3,300-strong, which is right on our target. Approximately 20% of the class are first-generation college students; and I am projecting that 20% of our students will be Pell-Grant recipients. This percentage will be confirmed once we receive the FAFSA data from students later this summer. International students compose 24% of the class and, as always, they hail from every corner of the globe. While the BU Admissions team remains committed to attracting and enrolling a diverse student body, I am unable to provide you with details about the racial composition of the first-year class at this time given the Supreme Court decision last summer. I promise to provide you with an update in the fall.

I am incredibly proud of the bright students who received an offer of admission to the BU Class of 2028. From researching neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease at the Bio-Imaging and Informatics lab, to acting on the Netflix show, Cobra Kai, to being the CEO of a non-profit that sells ethical handmade products from Cambodia to the USA, to writing a python code to track local COVID rates, our newly admitted Terriers are beyond impressive. I am confident that they will enrich and strengthen the BU community.

Additionally, I hope the information below will help you as you begin advising your juniors about the college admissions process. As context to the information below, 42% of students in our applicant pool indicated a desire to have their standardized test scores considered in the admissions process.

  • 56% of BU’s first-year class was admitted ED. Of this cohort, 36% of these students submitted standardized test scores.
  • 56% of the students admitted to the BU Class of 2028 submitted standardized test scores.
  • 44% of the students that deposited at BU submitted standardized test scores.

As you wrap up the school year, please encourage your students to plan in advance and to schedule their visits to campus as early as possible. Our Fall Visit Days are scheduled for October 4 and 25. Our goal is to accommodate each and every student for a visit, but since Boston is a popular destination in the fall, it is quite likely that these dates will fill to capacity quickly.

Fall 2025 Application Updates at the University of Michigan

As students are near the start of the college application process, we’re excited to share some new opportunities at the University of Michigan for first-year applicants. U-M applicants choose one of our schools or colleges to apply to as part of our admissions process. Starting with applications for fall 2025, they will have three more options to choose from in addition to our other first-year admitting units.

  • Apply directly to the Ross School of Business. Previously, first-year applicants had to apply to another first-year admitting school or college and apply separately for Preferred Admission to Ross. They will still have the opportunity to apply for Preferred Admission if they choose.
This program is moving from a winter start to a fall start, allowing students to begin at the start of the fall academic year with the majority of the incoming class.

The U-M application will open on Aug. 1 with the Common App, and we will follow our standard application timeline. Students who apply by the Early Action deadline of Nov. 1 will receive decisions by late January, and those who apply by the Regular Decision deadline of Feb. 1, will receive decisions by early April. Please note that urban technology and pharmaceutical science applicants will not be eligible for Early Action decisions.

You can learn more about these updates in our recent news story and on our Application Changes webpage, as well as what students can do to prepare for college.

Announcing PSU’s Elementary Education Bachelor’s degree program

Portland State University is proud to announce the launch of its innovative Elementary Education Bachelor’s degree program, offering undergraduates a direct pathway to becoming licensed teachers in the state of Oregon. The program, now accepting students for the fall term 2024, marks a significant milestone in PSU’s commitment to equity, access and diversity in teacher education.

Traditionally, students have pursued their teaching license after completing a graduate-level program at PSU. But for many, a master’s degree is out of reach. Recognizing the need for a more inclusive, accessible pathway, PSU developed an undergraduate track. The elementary education degree is tailored to meet the demands of a diverse student body and different learning needs.

The undergraduate option removes some of the barriers that a master’s degree imposes by offering flexible and accessible hybrid classes, reducing the number of years in school and lowering the cost of getting a teaching license. The program is designed to support recent high school graduates, transfer students, and returning students with a bachelor’s degree in something other than education.

PSU’s reputation for excellence in teacher preparation is underscored by its extensive network of partnerships with local schools and districts. Principals actively seek out PSU graduates for student teaching placements and teacher positions, recognizing their exceptional training and dedication to educational equity.

PSU has a history of educating high-quality teachers who have a strong commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice, and a deep toolbox of cutting-edge practices and techniques.

With the launch of this program we are helping to fill the gaps in a high-demand industry by training the next generation of impact-driven educators.

Emory University - Admitting the Class of 2028

As of May 15, 2024, we are pleased to report that the enrolling class at Emory College has met our expected enrollment target and exceeded it. However, we are also aware that changes in plans can occur for deposited students in the coming weeks. This includes gap year requests and other reasons why a small number of students may not end up enrolling in late August 2024. Therefore, we are anticipating enrolling approximately 50 students from the waitlist in the month of May.

The waitlist process at Emory College is initiated on a case-by-case basis, and students who are on the waitlist will be contacted via email if a spot opens up for them. It is important for students to ensure that their email addresses are correct and to check their emails regularly. We encourage students to respond promptly if they receive a notification from the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

Updates from IU Bloomington

Happy spring! At IU Bloomington, campus is blooming and growing—and students are enjoying the many beautiful outdoor spaces, whether they’re studying, relaxing, or engaging in activities together.

As you begin to wind down your own academic year, we wanted to make sure you had the information needed to support your conversations with students interested in IU. The information below includes the next steps for admitted students.

Getting from there to here

It’s only spring but we’re already getting excited about welcoming new students this fall! Students admitted to IU can review all of their next steps on the Steps to Enroll page for freshmen. From submitting necessary documents to learning about New Student Orientation, each important step is outlined.

As you know, there have been significant changes and delays in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process this year. As such, we want to make sure students and families have all the information they need to make their college decision. To allow families time to consider their student’s full financial aid profile, the deadline to reserve their space for the fall 2024 term has been adjusted from May 1 to June 1.

As always, students can contact their personal admission counselor if they have specific questions about any of their steps to enroll.

IU housing

The application for all campus housing is open. Students are encouraged to explore the wide range of housing options before they apply and contact IU Housing if they have any questions. The IU Housing website lists the application deadlines and instructions on how to apply.

Final high school transcripts

Now that the school year is ending, students must submit final high school transcripts as part of their application. Please remind students to request their final high school transcripts noting their graduation date once they are available. As always, if your students used the Common Application to apply, these transcripts can be uploaded directly through that platform. We’ve provided more information on submitting transcripts on the How to Apply page.

Self-reported and test-optional

Indiana University Bloomington has a test-optional admissions policy and that policy includes an option for students who want their SAT and/or ACT scores considered as part of their application to self-report their test scores.

Students who self-reported their test scores will need to send official scores that match or exceed what was self-reported as part of their Steps to Enroll. We will be sending reminders to students throughout the summer.

Summer visits

There are numerous ways to visit IU—both in-person and virtual—that can help students learn more about IU and see the opportunities that await them here. Summer is an especially good time for sophomores and juniors to experience the beauty of the IU campus and take time to explore. Options to sign up for campus visits are now available.

Wellesley College: Important Updates

Applicant Highlights

Wellesley College will continue to be test optional for those applying for entry in fall 2025. Since the introduction of test-optional practices at Wellesley, approximately 45% of our enrolling first-year students chose to apply without testing. As always, testing is just one part of our holistic, committee-based application review process. We review each applicant thoughtfully and within the context of their available resources. Regardless of an applicant’s decision to submit test scores, the admission committee is particularly interested in an applicant’s demonstrated writing and quantitative skills as key predictors for success in Wellesley’s curriculum.

The College will continue to assess the test-optional policy, and as updates become available for future application cycles, we will communicate new information to you and your students.

Spring Highlights
We increased our in-person recruitment efforts to meet you and your students in your communities this past fall. Our team continues to expand in-person recruitment throughout the spring, and we hope that we are able to connect with you at an upcoming event! We keep an updated list of events in the Wellesley In Your Area Portal that we encourage you to visit.

If we don’t cross paths in-person this spring, please feel free to connect with the Wellesley College admission representative for your part of the world. Relationship-building and understanding where our applicants learn and grow is a key element of our process. We are dedicated to providing support to you and your students throughout the process of learning about and applying to Wellesley.

Lastly, we are thrilled to welcome Becca Simons as our Director of Admission. Becca joins us from Brandeis University, where she spent 14 years leading the office in multiple roles, most recently as the Director of Admissions. Becca has proven to be a mentor to staff, a strong campus partner, and an advocate for students–actively developing and implementing new policies and practices to best serve applicants. As a graduate of Smith College, she has experienced firsthand the transformational education that schools like Wellesley provide. With the strong (and now complete!) team in the Office of Admission, we look forward to seeing how we continue to expand and evolve the work that we do.
